Student Fees

For your information, we have included a breakdown of the fees you pay. For more information on any of these fees, please feel free to contact Al Turnbull, president of UMSU. UMSU Student Organization fees 2013/2014:

Fort Garry Campus (per semester):

UMSU Operating Fee: $23.50*
Goes towards the general expenses of operating UMSU.

Scholarship and Bursary Fund: $20.00*
Endowment Fund
$11.50*
These funds go towards scholarships and bursaries for students, as well as providing funding for various UMSU services, such as Bison Patrol and the Gallery of Student Art (GoSA).

Faculty, College, and Residence Fees $7.75-$27.75
Students pay a fee to their respective faculty, college, and student organization. Fee levels are established and set by the faculty student organizations.

Faculty Fee Reallocation Fund $0.375

Canadian Federation of Students $7.00
All U of M students are members of the Canadian Federation of Students, a provincial and national students' organisation that provides cost-saving services and strong representation for students.

Capital Fund $9.00
This fund is used to pay for capital costs, including the purchase or repair of fixed assets, in UMSU space. A long-term goal of the UMSU Capital Fund is to acquire more student-owned space on the Fort Garry, Bannatyne, and Inner City campuses.

UMFM Radio Fund $2.50
All students pay to operate the FM Radio station which opened in the Fall of 1998.

Manitoban Fee $4.00
All students pay this fee to assist in the operation of the autonomous U of M student newspaper.

University of Manitoba Recycling and Environmental Group (UMREG) Fee $1.25
All students pay this fee to assist in the operation of the beverage container recycling program at the U of M and with promotion and education related to environmental awareness.

World University Services of Canada Fee $1.25
All students pay to support the efforts WUSC to bring refugee students to the U of M.

World Wise $0.25
All students pay this fee to support student exchange / study programs.

Engineers Without Borders Manitoba Chapter $0.125

UMSU Health and Dental Plan
The UMSU Health and Dental Plan was introduced for all full-time students in September 2002. The fee schedule is as follows:

Health $109.95
Dental $141.05
Administration $5.75
Students who have existing coverage for either Health and / or Dental may chose to opt out of either or both coverages. The administration fee will be used to cover the costs associated with the plan including such items as an office, staffing, and the opting-out administration.
