UMSU helps students in need over holiday season

Monday, November 24, 2008 - The University of Manitoba Students' Union (UMSU) has launched four campaigns for the holiday season to help students in need.

Monday, November 24, 2008 - The University of Manitoba Students' Union (UMSU) has launched four campaigns for the holiday season to help students in need.

Food for Fines is a joint effort with the University of Manitoba Libraries to assist the U of M student Food bank and students with library fines. Students can trade in a non-perishable food item to replace outstanding library fines. Each food item donated reduces the fine by $2, to a maximum of $20. This program runs at all U of M libraries from Monday, November 24th to Sunday, November 30th.

Holiday Food Hampers is an annual program to assist students in need over the holidays with a food hamper. Students that are interested in receiving a food hamper can contact the UMSU office. All inquiries remain confidential.

Loonie Tunes will be set-up throughout campus from Monday, November 24th to Wednesday, December 3th. Students will be busking and playing live music in exchange for spare change. All money donated will go towards purchasing food the Holiday Food Hamper program.

UMSU Toy Drive occurs from November 24th to December 5th. New, unwrapped toy donations will be accepted in the large Toy Box in University Centre (1st floor) or in the UMSU office. All toy donations will go the children of students signed up for the Holiday Food Hamper program.
