Student Groups

At the heart of UMSU are the over 110 student groups and services that provide students with cultural, religious, political and recreational programs, which range from dance and photography to environmental and social justice.

With such a diversity of groups, you are bound to find a group that matches your interests.

Student Group Assistance

There are a number of ways UMSU can assist your student group: it can arrange meeting and storage space, mailboxes, access to ticket selling at Answers, and official UMSU student group status. Recognised student groups may apply for special event funds and office space. Student groups serve a variety of interests and needs including various hobby, sport, religious, political, social, ethnic and cultural activities.

Student Group Recruitment Days

If you want to get more involved within the University, look for Student Group Recruitment Days to be held September 21 - 25, and January 11-14 in University Centre. Sign up for the group of your choice and enhance your university experience.

Student groups: If you would like to book table space in University Centre to promote your student group during Student Group Recruitment Days (September 21 - 25), download the 2009 - SG Recruitment Week (PDF) and return it to Heather Laube, Vice-President Student Services, at the UMSU office (101 University Centre). The deadline to hand in this form is September 16, 2009.

Student Group Resource Centre

A common work and resource place for student groups is UMSU's new Student Group Resource Centre, located in Room 180 of Helen Glass Centre for Nursing. The space is available for meetings and other events, and to use as a central organising place with the use of computers and a printer. Students interested in finding out more about student groups should stop by the Resource Centre. To find out how to book the space, contact Heather Laube, Vice-President Student Services.
