Donations wanted for Campus Community Farm
On Friday, April 23rd at approximately 6:45am our Campus Community Farm garden shed was burned to the ground at our garden location on Chancellor Matheson Drive/Pembina. Arson is suspected. The farm, a new UMSU Service, is a student led initiative whose main objectives seek to provide access to students and community groups with high quality arable land for gardening and sustainable mini-farming, while addressing a number of pressing environmental issues such as food security and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through the promotion of local food initiatives.
The shed contained all of our garden tools, thus we are facing a difficult start to the growing season. We are requesting donations in order to replace what was lost so that we may continue in our successful venture as a dynamic campus and community initiative.
We are specifically seeking to replace the following items:
- The garden shed.
- Wheel barrels.
- Hand tools such as hand hoes and trowels.
- Digging tools such as spades and forks.
- Rakes, hoes, and pitch forks.
- Watering cans.
- Shears and basic pruning equipment.
- Gloves.
- Garden hose.
- Bicycle and cart.
- Pea fencing, rebar stakes ,and tomato cages.
- Lawnmower
Any donation of items or monetary donations would be greatly appreciated.
